Meet Reclaim: The AI tool to clean your inbox while protecting your data...

...And the first product I’ve designed from discovery to post-launch.

The Problem:

Digital privacy is important for everyone, but not everyone makes it a priority due to a high barrier to entry when it comes to cleaning up your digital footprint because everyones data is everywhere. I co-designed Reclaim: a web app that scans your inbox, tells you what companies have your information, what information they have, if you’ve been in a data breach, and what to do about it.

Delivery

Delivery phase was a major part of this project. I was the first designer in the company to establish prototyping as a requirement for handover, which was a large task to complete for an entire MVP of the product.

I was responsible for delivering  responsive designs for all sections of the product.

I completed baseline usability testing for the entire product, and friction analysis on our onboarding/welcome process.

How I Improved Development Handover

When I joined Anonyome Labs, all of our designs were handed off through Zeppelin, which was cumbersome and time consuming for designers, who were in Figma full time. Design leadership got the OK to move to Figma Dev Mode for handoffs, and Reclaim was the first project to use the new method.

I was the first designer on our team to implement prototyping for handoff.

Usability Study: Baseline Established

While my designs were in development, I conducted a usability study for our MVP of Reclaim, just before our beta launched. The goal of this usability study was to validate the designs that came out of discovery surveys, assess how usable the app is, see how valuable users found the app, and establish where we could continue to improve.

Takeaway One

? 1

Users don’t read. Onboarding was skipped, and users didn’t find value in the app until way too late.

Takeaway Two

? 1

Users trust Google.
Our privacy-focused stakeholders were shocked. Google SSO was a success.

Takeaway Three

? 1

Users want Numbers.
Reclaim’s dashboard was simple, leaving users feeling like they wanted more.

Post-research Journey Maps

Friction Analysis

After recognizing our onboarding may have too many steps, I opted to complete a friction analysis on the process. After presenting to stakeholders, they agreed to plan in a revamp for onboarding in Q1 of 2025, and asked for continued use of friction analysis, leading to my leadership of workshops on the research method.

When designing and testing the onboarding process, I thought I was on the right track. I used progressive disclosure, showed them around the product, and did my best to establish value.

When I realized it took 48FP to get into the product at all, I knew that there was plenty of room for improvement 🙈

But our baseline was established, and we could follow the process to improve and validate the new design.
